No idea about the MAC or Jardine, but just a suggestion. When you do get the final configuration you want, replace the "seal" (its actually sort of a crush washer) between the header and jug. If air leaks in and/or exhaust leaks out it can do wierd backpressure and cooling things resulting in anything from wear on valves to discoloration of the pipe to backfire.
